FIRE FITNESS: Get Fit to Fight Fire Fitness Guide

Although we’re in the profession of protecting and helping the public, we too often neglect ourselves and our body. In order to provide the services we’re sworn to provide to the public, we need to understand the importance of our being as physically able to perform our roles.

With this in mind, we developed the Fit to Fight Fire Fitness Guide for public safety professionals. The Firefighter-specific guide offers various exercises and injury-prevention tips geared toward firefighting.

The Fit to Fight Fire Fitness Guide is available through

·         Emergencystuff.com: www.emergencystuff.com under pocket guides.

·         Amazon.com: www.amazon.com under books by Todd Platner.

Why are these guides so valuable? For one, to ignore your fitness is dangerous to you, your family and also your co-workers, not to mention those you serve. Additionally, we in the emergency services are often the victims of injuries and illnesses that we can avoid by keeping ourselves physically fit. Physical fitness isn’t about lifting the most weight at the gym or being able to compete in a 5K marathon with the fastest time. It’s about having the ability to expend energy to perform a task without overworking yourself needlessly. It’s about building your strength and endurance. It’s about using proper body mechanics to perform a task with the minimum amount of wear and tear on your body. It’s about building a better-prepared body—and it isn’t a difficult task to perform.

The Fit to Fight Fire Fitness Guide coaches you through simple activities that will allow you to minimize the risks of injuries caused by over extending your body. It gives you a guide for increasing your physical well-being, tracking your progress and asking yourself, “What variables do I need to consider in a fitness regimen?”

An Introduction to TALKBox - A Communications Interoperability Solution

TALKBox – a communications interoperability solution in a portable case or rack mounted format. It is designed to interconnect land mobile radio of multiple frequencies, fixed line, cellular GSM and CDMA, and VoIP voice communications as well as a data interconnect. The communications operates on two levels. A local communications environment is created for mobile radio, a bank of fixed line phones(for use as a command center) and three separate Wi Fi ranges( one for admin, one for general users and the third for the optional Wi Fi cameras). The second level is the connection to the rest of the world through any of fiber, microwave, satellite, and cellular. TALKBox has its own phone system to manage the call traffic and simplify users actions to quickly learn and use the gear.It is a robust, durable, and field tested communications solution that can be operating within an hour. Power usage after startup is 650 W and with a gas generator one gallon of fuel will operate the unit for about 6 hours. We feel that ongoing interaction with our customers is as much a key to success as the unit itself. The solution includes a site visit, configuration, training for staff, a monthly systems check online and an onsite quarterly systems as we believe that preparation and training are as important as the hardware in any effective solution.

When did your company start?
The concept for the TALKBox started with hurricane Wilma in South Florida when the power and all communications was down for 6 million people for about a week.  We started working on the TALKBox concept about a year later in 2007 and first deployed a unit in 2008. The latest version of the product is launching in summer of 2012.

Where are you located?
Our development and manufacturing is located in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale area with administrative offices in Michigan and Sales in Arkansas.

Who is your target market?
Our core market is emergency responders at city, county, state and national levels, remote location services such as oil rigs, mines, agribusinesses, movies and events as well as private business who are looking for a portable comms solution.

Do you have a mission or vision statement? What is it?
Mission statement – to provide a comprehensive communications interoperability solution that takes the reality of the circumstances into consideration to ensure that it will of significant benefit and value to users of the system.

Vision – continuous improvement on the narrow focus of our business model to deliver what is needed to emergency responders to be more effective in aiding the community

Did you experience any failures & how did you overcome them?
Our biggest obstacle to success on this product was to come up with a solution that would allow the radio sourced traffic and the phone traffic to communicate without clipping off the beginning of the conversation. It was critical to make sure that any user of the system only feel that the communications they experienced was as good as they would normally expect. Ultimate it was resolved and we were able to keep to our internal criteria of acceptable quality of communications.

Is there anything I haven't covered that you would like to address?
Our core development philosophy is to make as durable a product as possible and to this end we do not try to re-invent the wheel. We use subcomponents that are tried and proven durable as long as they meet our technical needs. We are expanding the scope of the TALBox to incorporate more data services and more features such as the optional cameras, video conferencing and a high performance server so that more software applications specific to our customer can be packaged into the box that they use in the provision of services. This way we can build almost a duplicate to the systems and the data that emergency responders use every day. One of our key goals is to make the technology as invisible as possible so that when someone is in the midst of the chaos of an emergency, they don’t need to spend any extra minutes trying to figure out how to use something. The more second nature it is the more time they save and in an emergency it may be enough to make a difference.

http://talkboxsystem.wix.com/centrixlmr   TALKBox@ is a portable Gateway Solution that provides you with all of the current requirements necessary  to become fully interoperable.  TALKBox® serves as a virtual switchboard, permitting intercommunication between the various modes and devices that the response team members now utilize. . The TALKBox® does not require minutes or hours to establish the necessary intermodal networks. A few clicks of the mouse, or taps on the tablet, and law enforcement, EMS, and other personnel are interconnected to coordinate in the vital business of saving lives and property.
